About

Greenwood Music Camp is a summer camp for classical musicians. The camp offers a life that combines the profound sharing and communication of the chamber music experience with a supportive family-like daily life.

The camp maintains a balance of string, woodwind and piano players. All students participate in chamber music, orchestra and chorus, and they are challenged and encouraged to work hard to discover the great reward of intensive, well-focused learning.

Generations of Greenwooders have agreed that the extraordinarily high level of music making, combined with the warm, non-competitive atmosphere that Greenwood promotes, is unique.

Senior camp is five weeks long, lasting through July and into the first week of August, and accepts students aged 14–18. Applicants should have had prior chamber music and orchestral experience. The Senior camp enrolls about 60 campers, many of whom return from the previous year. Greenwood does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation or national origin.

Tuition and Scholarships

Tuition for 2025 is $7750 is all-inclusive. All tuition payments are non-refundable.

Every year, between 30 and 50 percent of enrolled campers are awarded some amount of scholarship aid. We have a need-blind acceptance policy, and we are committed to providing financial support whenever assistance is necessary. It is our goal that no accepted applicant is unable to attend Greenwood for financial reasons.

To apply for financial aid, please complete the application only after acceptance to camp.

Music

Every student receives a chamber music assignment on Monday morning, has a minimum of three coached rehearsal sessions as well as rehearsals without a coach, and performs that piece on the following Saturday. In any given summer, over 60 movements of major works will be learned and performed for the entire community. For a sampling of chamber music played please see last year’s final program.

Students have one lesson with their assigned instrumental teacher at the beginning of each week, and can work on solo repertoire in addition to chamber music. Students who are interested in composition can participate in weekly composition meetings and present their work at the composers’ concert in the final week.

There are many forms of recreation available at Greenwood, including two clay tennis courts, a pool, ping-pong tables, miles of dirt roads and trails for biking and hiking, and a field for the soccer, softball or frisbee games that often fill a beautiful summer evening. We also enjoy a camp-wide Treasure Hunt, charades and Capture-the-Flag games every summer.

Greenwood is a nut free environment.
